~Jurying the 30th Annual Society of Illustrators Original Art Show~

Piles and piles of books to judge...554 to be exact! (photo courtesy of Chad Beckerman)

Monday was a very big day for me: I had the incredible honor of serving on the jury of the 30th Annual Society of Illustrators Original Art Show. About a month ago Laurent Linn, Chair of this years show, called me up to ask if I would be an alternate juror in the event that one of the others could not make it. I was honored to be asked, but doubted the fact that I'd actually be called in... Well, much to my surprise, I got the "you're in!" phone call on Sunday night. Wow. What a wonderful experience it was, and I am extremely thankful to both Laurent Linn (Chair) and Amy June Bates (Co-Chair) for having me on board! One of my fellow co-jurors, Chad Beckerman, did a great job of documenting the day over at his blog, if you'd like to see and hear a little bit about how it all went down (thanks for photographing, Chad!). This is going to be an awesome show--make sure to mark your calendars for the opening reception and awards ceremony on Thursday, October 21st!

Wow! Congratulations! I had the extreme pleasure of attending Laurent and Amy's workshop event in San Francisco last year, and they are such giving, talented people. The event looks amazing! Thanks for the post, Lauren!

Hey Lauren! Anna wanted me to tell you how much she and the girls (and me!) enjoyed What Happens on Wednesday. Anna picked it out of the library and told me that it looked like it would be illustrated by someone I knew. I had the pleasure of saying "Oh yeah, Lauren Castillo!"

Keep up the great work.

That's great, Shirley! Yes, they are both wonderful people :)

Thanks so much for letting me know, Ben! I am really glad they enjoyed WEDNESDAYS. It's always awesome to hear that a child liked my book!

Oh Lauren, I am so sorry that I didn't post this sooner. Actually Books of Wonder is going to have me back to read my own new book, " Don't Let Auntie Mabel Bless the Table" I was even sure I would make it, but my schedule changed and so there you have it. I will keep you posted though from now on. I promise. I would love to meet you and if you are having any signing please let me cause I love to come and support you.
