DRAWN IN BROOKLYN

My work is included in the upcoming exhibition, DRAWN IN BROOKLYN, displayed at the Brooklyn Public Library's Central branch. The show runs from September 21, 2010 — January 23, 2011. (click on the above flyer to view details)
Here's the official description of the show:
'This exhibition of children's book illustrations, curated by John
Bemelmans Marciano, features the work of 34 illustrators who live and work
in Brooklyn, from the most exciting newcomers in publishing to the legends
of the business. View more than 100 pieces of art from books such as Duck
for President, The Curious Garden, Moonpowder and Madeline and the Cats of
Rome. Also, see the work of Caldecott Medal and Coretta Scott Kind Award
winners Leo and Diane Dillon, Brian Selznick, Paul O. Zelinsky, Bryan
Collier, Pat Cummings and Brian Pinkney. Original picture book art is
displayed in the Grand Lobby. In the Youth Wing, find sketches, models,
tools and more that reveal the processes behind the works.'

I do plan to attend. This is great!!! I can't wait. I am clearing my schedule so I can be there. Yes I am up to my ears in work, but this is wonderful and I wouldn't want to miss it. Congrats to you Lady!!!! You are so dam right about not saying anything about the artist. I don't know what that is all about. My agent is having a real fit over it too. She said, "She could have at least said your name once!" It's not alright and it's not cool, but it is what it is for the moment. They called and told me not to worry about hair and makeup on tomorrow for the book signing. Now I am a makeup artist for well over 28 years. What makes them think I don't care about the way I look cause I'm an illustrator???? Girl I am going to beat the heck out of my face for evening and that is for sure. he he he he he! It's all good Lauren. As long as my name is written correctly on the check I could care less! Hug to you beautiful!!
Take care,
V

Are you serious!?! Lets just hope they meant that they've got a special hair and makeup person for you at the event. Otherwise, that's the craziest b.s. I have ever heard. Good luck tonight Vanessa, and go outshine that "star" :)

Thanks so much Lauren. It was wonderful and what's more many of my loved one showed up. Now I will tell you that they were not happy that Borders decided to change the game once I got there by telling me that there was not enough room for me for signing on Tori Spelling and her best friend. My agent was pissed and so was I for that matter. First I am doing the signing with her and then magically, "We have no place or Vanessa to sign. She can just stand in the isles and if people want her to sign their books then she can do so." Hey what are you going to do. Tori is the star here. I totally understand, but we SOOOOOOO need to change the dam game man. I believe as you do. Artist Illustrators should get the same billing as the Authors. No ands, ifs or buts about it. The pictures are just as important as the words and I think that so many people miss that. Don't worry Lauren Sistah girl is about to change the dam game that's for sure. Hugs and kisses and always best wishes darling.
Hugs
